Behind the Remedy

I’m Jade, the woman behind Daughter of Yore Apothecary, and I believe some of the most powerful healing wisdom has been hiding in plain sight for centuries.

Having graduated with a Diploma in Health Science in 2024 and currently in my third-year of a Bachelor’s degree in Naturopathy, I spend my days learning the science behind what our ancestors intuitively knew - that plants can be profound allies for emotional wellbeing.

Growing up, I was captivated by my nana’s stories of our family line in Scotland. She migrated to Australia, but her heart never left the Scottish highlands. Through her tales, I inherited something precious; a deep respect for the old ways and for the knowledge passed down through generations.

While I grew up surrounded by “kitchen medicine” - remedies for common colds and flu, my focus deepened towards herbs for emotional support after my nan passed away. During that time, I discovered how herbal allies could offer the strength and resilience I needed to heal, stay connected to her memory, and move forward with renewed hope. When I work with herbs, I’m not just following ancient recipes; I’m continuing a living tradition that nurtures both body and spirit.

My story, however, doesn’t end with Scotland. I’m also of Pacific Islander heritage, a part of my identity that remains beautifully mysterious to me. While I may not have family stories to guide me, I’m discovering this connection through the plants themselves - learning about traditional uses of Pacific flora, understanding how different cultures have honoured the same fundamental truth; that nature provides what we need to heal.

What excites me most is bridging these worlds - honouring traditional knowledge while embracing modern science that validates what our grandmothers knew in their bones.

Through Daughter of Yore, I want to share this journey with you. This isn’t about abandoning modern medicine - it’s about remembering that we have options. It’s about recognising that the gentle, time-tested approaches we once relied on still have a place in our fast-paced world.

Whether you’re curious about natural alternatives, drawn to ancestral wisdom, or simply looking for gentler ways to support your emotional wellbeing, I’m here to explore these paths together.

After all, we’re all daughters and sons of yore - inheritors of wisdom that’s been patiently waiting for us to remember.
